The Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art recently unveiled “Cô gái và giỏ hoa” (The Girl and the Basket of Flowers) by Vietnamese artist Bùi Hữu Hùng, a gift from the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine, on 3rd November 2024. Museum Director Igor Poronik praised the piece for its meticulous detail, balanced colours, and traditional techniques, noting how beautifully it reflects Vietnamese cultural heritage.
Describing the artwork, he shared, “The figure in the painting is a young woman dressed in a traditional bodice, holding a basket of flowers with a calm expression, looking directly at the viewer. The mood is quiet—neither joyful nor sorrowful, with no movement. It feels as though this is a moment in Vietnamese history that the artist has suddenly paused.”
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyễn Hồng Thạch expressed pride in this exhibition, seeing it as an opportunity for Ukrainian and international audiences to experience Vietnamese art firsthand, fostering deeper cultural connections between Vietnam and Ukraine.
