STUDIO IN MARLY-LE-ROI, PARIS

Date

Bui Huu Hung created a studio in Marly-le-Roi to experiment with lacquer using old traditional techniques and materials under the European climate.

Together with Doan Chi Trung, a fellow master of lacquer works, Bui Huu Hung created a studio in Marly-le-Roi to experiment with lacquer using old traditional techniques and materials under the European climate. The studio ran from July 2014 to August and was supported by the Research Centre of Sorbonne University. The products were exhibited in the ‘Art and Archeology of Vietnam – new ways’ conference, along with 30 paintings and sculptures. Amongst them include three large traditional Vietnamese lacquer on canvas adaptations of Vélazquez’s 15th-century work as well as Enquerrand Quarton’s.
